Dr. Greg Matos, Psy.D., ABPP
Board-Certified Couple and Family Psychologist
Dr. Matos was first trained as a military psychologist and served for over 10 years in the Marine Corps and Navy. He specializes in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and has helped thousands of couples improve their relationships. Dr. Matos founded the charity A Better Love Project, which reached over 9 million people between 2021 and 2024. He is a staff psychologist at UCLA.

Post‑Doctoral Fellowship
The MPC Fellowship is a 12-month, part-time training program for two postdoctoral psychologists, focusing on advanced clinical competencies and specialized training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
1) Gottman Specialization
Our Gottman pathway integrates weekly supervision with a Level 3 Gottman Method trained licensed psychologist, supervised recorded cases, fidelity review, and portfolio support for Gottman Level 1 certification:
- Weekly consultation (1 hr/week)
- Supervised Gottman cases (target 2+ couples in your first 3 months)
- Recorded sessions & fidelity reviews
- Supervisor letters & portfolio support
2) Curriculum & Timeline
Clinical service, Supervision, Didactics, Gottman training, Research/QI
(Months 0–6): Orientation & ITP → Level 1 workshop → Begin Gottman recorded cases & weekly consultation → Probationary review at 3 months → Level 2 by month 4–6 → Midterm evaluation at 6 months.
3) Admissions
Eligibility: Doctorate in clinical/counseling psychology, completed internship, eligible for post‑doc supervision in California.
Selection: First-round interviews are conducted virtually. If needed, a second round interview may be requested in person at our West LA office. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in couples psychology and previous couples or family therapy experience.
Timeline: Applications accepted on an ongoing basis until positions are filled.
4) Business Development Training
This is an unpaid post-doctoral training program. Fellows complete an Introduction to Private Practice didactic and launch their private practices under the supervision of Dr. Matos. Fellows may meet with their private practice clients at our West LA Office at no cost during their fellowship. They will have the option of subletting the office at a discounted rate after licensure. Fellows are credentialed with Anthem Blue Cross at no cost and can immediately begin accruing supervised hours toward licensure.
5) FAQs
Q: Will the fellowship support my Gottman certification? A: Yes — didactics, weekly consultation, supervised cases, recordings, and supervisor letters to support certification submission.
Q: How many direct client hours? A: We hope to ramp from 1–5hrs/week to ~20–25hrs/week by 12 months. You will be actively marketing your private practice during the fellowship.
Q: Is this APA‑accredited? A: No.
